Hi! I'm Catherine. I'm a content marketer, SEO, travel writer, business owner and photographer.
So what makes me tick?
When I’m not working, my main passions are travelling and eating out. But I also love yoga, spinning, baking, and I am OBSESSED with music. I’ve played the flute since I was 8 years old, have played in concert bands around the world, and I’m also the best karaoke singer you’ll ever experience.
Yes, experience.
Oh, and my dog Frank also loves travelling and eating out. He frequently comes with me on staycations and we love checking out all the dog-friendly hotspots!

When did you start Lux Life?
I started Lux Life in 2011, after blogging for a year as the Ten Pound Pom, where I lived off £10 a week to raise money for charity. I missed blogging and having a creative outlet!
What's your favourite country?
This is tricky. I have a few: Australia, Samoa, Oman, France.
Is Lux your real surname?
Yes! My Grandad's family are from Germany (Cologne and Krefeld), and I only learnt in 2017 at Frankfurt airport that we've actually been pronouncing our surname wrong for decades. Oops. Apparently in Germany they pronounce it 'looks', rather than having a hard 'U'.
How did you get into SEO?
Like most people, I fell into it. I actually started out in social media then fell into SEO. While I was at University I ran my own social media consultancy working with local businesses, and then after University I got a job as a Social Media & PR Executive at a digital agency. When I moved jobs in 2014, I sort of fell into a Content SEO role, and the rest is history!
What's your favourite thing about your job?
Definitely mentoring. I love supporting my direct reports and helping them to grow in their careers! But I also love the variety that comes with content marketing and the ability to be creative in quite a specialist, functional area.
What's the nerdiest thing about you?
I collect Coca-Cola bottles. I've collected them since I was 14-years-old and have around 50-60 of them now from all around the world!
What breed is Frank?
Frank is a miniature wirehaired dachshund. He was born in 2021 and I got him at 8-weeks old 🙂 he's the best.
Where do you live?
I'm in London these days, but I grew up in Guildford, spent some time living in Australia and Chelsea, and my parents now live in Cornwall. I also spend a lot of time in the US as I have lots of cousins located there.
How do I start a travel blog?

Why did you live in Australia?
We moved to Perth, Australia when I was a teenager with my dad's work, so I did my last couple of years of high school out there. We then moved back to the UK, and I always knew I wanted to go back one day. In 2016 it felt like the right time, so I made the jump and moved to Sydney!
I did another couple of years out there and had the best time, but moving home was definitely the right choice. Who knows what the future holds though and if I'll go back some day - never say never!
